Preview
The Indians continued their clinical performances against the English team with a victory in the first match of the ODI series. Their 66 run-win in Pune on Tuesday proved once again why they are a top-quality team. At one stage, they looked down and out at one point, when England was cruising at 135 in 14 overs.
However, the tide soon turned towards India as they came back in the match with debutant Prasidh Krishna taking some key wickets. The young Karnataka pacer ended with four wickets on his debut, which is the most by any Indian player on his debut in ODI cricket. Apart from that, another debutant Krunal Pandya managed to snap one wicket and also score 58 runs from just 31 balls.
As far as England are concerned, they would be slightly worried about their bowling, having conceded 317 runs in the first match. The visitors have some injury concerns as well and it will be interesting to see how their team shapes up for the second ODI. The hosts will be upbeat as they would know the pressure isn’t on them. A victory will give them a series win and also help them stamp their authority on the World Champions.

Captaincy picks:
Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli continued his good form with the bat with another fifty to his name. His 60-ball 56 was a vital inning after India got off to a slow start. His knock ensured that Shikhar Dhawan could play his natural game, while Kohli made sure that the runs were chipping in easily from the other end. Having not scored an international century since late 2019, he would want to convert a fifty of his into a hundred.
Jonny Bairstow
Ever since the white-ball leg of the tour has started, Bairstow has looked in the best form possible. The right-handed opener smashed 94 from just 66 balls in the first ODI. His knock was absolutely sublime and was filled with strokes that would make any batsman proud. He has an average close to 48, which just a representation of how good a batsman he is at the top of the order.
