Match Details:

The 1st match of the 2020 ACC Western Region T20 will be played between Thailand and Singapore at the Asian Institute of Technology Ground, Bangkok.

The match starts at 9:30 AM local time (2:30 AM GMT) (8:00 AM IST).

Preview:

The ACC Eastern Region T20 for the Asia Cup 2020 will kick start on Saturday where five teams will be in action for the two spots in the Asia Cup 2020 Qualifier. Except for Hong Kong, none of the sides in this tournament were ever part of an Asia Cup. The first match of the tournament will be played between the hosts Thailand and Singapore. The Thailand Men’s team can take their Women’s side as an inspiration who are currently part of a 10-team Women’s T20 World Cup. Singapore, on the other hand, registered disappointing performances in the ICC T20 CWC Qualifiers and will be hoping to bounce back.

Weather Condition/Report:

Slightly high temperatures are expected on Saturday morning at the Asian Institute of Technology Ground.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The Asian Institute of Technology Ground will be hosting a Men’s T20 match for the first time in this tournament. The venue stood host for Women’s T20I in the past where totals between 100 and 120 were seen quite often. We can expect the totals to reach up to 160 in this tournament. Due to high temperatures in the morning, we might not see any moisture on the pitch.

Top Picks:

Janak Prakash could be among the top three performers of the match if we go by his record in the T20Is. Across the 12 matches Prakash played in this tournament, he bagged 15 wickets and also scored 98 runs. Timothy David had an impressive record and streak of 40+ scores going into the T20 CWC Qualifiers where he turned up ordinary against top teams. However, he is likely to bounce back strongly in this Eastern Region T20. He recently played in the BBL where he produced some cameo knocks. Surendran Chandramohan is close to David in the T20Is as he scored 348 runs across 12 matches with three half-centuries. The Singapore skipper Amjad Mahboob has claimed 19 wickets across the 11 T20Is he has been part of at a strike rate of 11.8 only.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Captain – Timothy David, Janak Prakash, Surendran Chandramohan.

Vice-Captain – Amjad Mahboob, Daniel Jacobs, Ziaul Hoque.

Expert Advice:

Thailand last played an official match was being part of a Tri-Nation T20I series in last June which involved Malaysia and Maldives. The current Thailand squad does not include many of the players who were part of that tournament. Hence, it will be interesting to see whether Thailand field an extra batsman or pick more all-rounders.

Probable Winners:

Singapore is a much stronger and experienced team compared to Thailand.
